Sandra Bryant Smith is the second child of James and Cleo Bryant. She and her family lived in Birmingham, Alabama where Sandra, her two brothers (James and Gerald), and one sister (Lisa), graduated from high school. During the five years she served in the United States Marine Corps, she relocated to San Diego, Ca in 1978, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from National University. Responding to a job offer, Sandra moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1984. With experience in sales, marketing, personnel, and business administration, Sandra has worked in various corporate settings. Additionally, she has experience in church administration and many years as a school and community volunteer.
In November of 1985, Palma Ceia became Sandra’s church home. She served as President for the Baptist Young Women, a leader with the Christian Youth Edition, a member of the Sunday School and Financial Secretary for Palma Ceia Baptist Church.
In 1990, Sandra Bryant became Mrs. Tommy E. Smith, Jr. with Pastor Charles Bennett officiating over their nuptials. Sandra and Tommy have three children: Alexandria, Ayanna, and Thomas James.
With the purpose of deepening and expanding Tommy and Sandra’s faith and leadership, in 2000, God directed them to move their family to South Bay Community Church in Fremont, CA, where they eventually became members under the pastorship of Dr. Stanley and Mrs. Ruby Long. During this time, Sandra served on the Intercessory Prayer Ministry and was employed as the Administrative Assistant for South Bay Community Church.
After Tommy accepted the call to serve as Interim Pastor for Palma Ceia Baptist Church in March 2009, Sandra returned with Tommy to serve the members of Palma Ceia Baptist Church and the community of Hayward. On July 10, 2011, through the majority of the voting members of Palma Ceia Baptist Church, God confirmed His plan for Tommy’s call as a pastor.
“There is no greater joy than to know that I have pleased God through my obedience and service to Him by ministering to His people. To my brothers and sisters in Christ at Palma Ceia, it is my sincere pleasure to serve you and grow in Christ with you.”
